The full results of the Democratic mayoral primary released Tuesday showed how badly Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani clobbered former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in his bombshell victory.
Mamdani toppled the political scion by nearly 50,000 votes after just three rounds of rank choice voting were calculated by the New York City Board of Elections.
In the final round, Mamdani held a 12-point lead over Cuomo, securing his win with 56% of the vote compared to the ex-governor’s 44%.

The 33-year-old Queens assemblyman easily topped Cuomo in the first round of voting by more than 70,000 votes before he further cemented the Democratic nomination this week.
The general election is expected to be crowded with Mamdani running against GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa, as well as Mayor Eric Adams, attorney Jim Walden and Cuomo who are all on third-party lines.
Mamdani, who is pushing for city-run grocery stores and a host of freebies, has been on a victory tour since last Tuesday’s stunning upset.

“It is harder than ever to believe in our democracy. It has been attacked by billionaires and hollowed out by its failure to respond to working people’s struggles,” he tweeted over the weekend.
“But on this campaign, we dreamed of a new day. And we have won it together.”
A little more than 1 million voters cast their ballots in the primary compared to the 942,000 votes that were tallied in the 2021 Democratic primary.
