Florida State’s explosive start against Kent State came to a sudden pause late in the second quarter. Quarterback Tommy Castellanos, who had been carving up the defense, left the game with a lower-leg injury after being rolled up on by multiple defenders. He will not return to the game.
Castellanos’ absence was immediately felt. He had completed 10-of-13 passes for 205 yards, added 54 rushing yards, and scored two touchdowns on the ground. His dual-threat ability had the Golden Flashes on their heels, but the injury forced freshman Kevin Sperry into action.
Castellanos’ leg was caught under linemen after releasing a pass to Lawayne McCoy. He hopped to the sideline before being evaluated by medical staff.
A lightning stoppage followed the play, giving Castellanos time to regroup. He returned to the sideline jogging, sparking hope, but did not re-enter the game. As the third quarter continues, Florida State leads Kent State, 52-7.
Castellanos has already totaled 594 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three rushing scores this season. His development is critical to FSU’s push for ACC dominance.
For now, Seminoles fans wait. Castellanos’ health could define the ceiling of this season.
