After he stirred up a controversy talking about the Alabama football team, now Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos is trying to walk back his comments.
Castellanos called out the Tide a few weeks ago in an interview; the word quickly spread to Crimson Tide players, and Bama receiver Isaiah Horton reportedly confronted Castellanos during a workout between the two, according to Athlon Sports.
"Oh, you play with Bama? Castellanos said. "Listen, y’all boys gonna see."
Horton, who used to play for the Miami Hurricanes, didn’t seem to take Castellanos seriously, and the quarterback later tried to walk back his comments by saying he was just trying to pump his team up.
“On the real, though. If you watch any interview, I don’t never talk like that, bro,” he said. “But them boys coming off a 2-10. I just had to install some confidence. You feel me? That’s all I’m trying to do. That’s all I’m trying to do. I’m just trying to get some confidence. Like, I’m trying to get my boys ready to go. You feel me? I’m trying to make it the biggest stage. Yeah, I’m trying to make it the biggest stage.”
The Seminoles' QB may have gotten wind of what Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson said earlier Wednesday at SEC Media Days when asked about what Castellanos had said.
Lawson made it perfectly clear he saw the comments as disrespectful and that he or his teammates won’t forget anytime soon.
So Castellanos may have backed down from his comments to save face and to save his neck. The Alabama defense at the end of the season got better, and they have a lot of returning starters on that defense who definitely plan on making Castellanos a target when they face each other in a few weeks to kick off the season.
