From Wynonna to Ella Langley: Albums With 3 or More Country Airplay No. 1s by Women

Now, Langley’s Dandelion, which has spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on Top Country Albums since it debuted in April, has delivered yet another milestone.

With “Choosin’ Texas,” “Be Her” and, on the Aug. 15-dated Country Airplay chart, the Morgan Wallen duet “I Can’t Love You Anymore” each reaching No. 1, Dandelion is just the 13th album by a woman or an act with a woman vocalist to generate at least three leaders since the chart launched in 1990. It’s the first to reach the threshold since Kelsea Ballerini’s The First Time in 2015-16.

Wallen brings some impressive album history of his own to the occasion. His “Don’t We,” which immediately preceded “I Can’t Love You Anymore” atop Country Airplay, became the seventh No. 1 from I’m the Problem, making it the first album to generate seven leaders from an original version. Luke Combs’ What You See Is What You Get also produced seven when counting its original and deluxe editions.

For albums by women, however, even three has become rare. Ten of the 13 qualifying sets arrived between 1992 and 2009. Carrie Underwood leads with three — Some Hearts, Carnival Ride and Play On — while Shania Twain follows with two. Twain’s The Woman in Me remains the only album in the group to produce four Country Airplay No. 1s.
