Freddy Peralta may be making last start with Mets as trade deadline looms

Freddy Peralta is scheduled to remain on turn and start Friday night against the Marlins at Citi Field, according to interim manager Andy Green.

The veteran right-hander is one of many Mets expected to be moved ahead of the trade deadline.

Despite a nightmare of a season, teams are interested in him.

The Mets acquired Peralta in the offseason for prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat, hoping he would lead the starting rotation.

Instead, he hasn’t come close to expectations, pitching to a 4.99 ERA and 1.48 WHIP.

Peralta, 30, last completed six innings June 9.

He had a 6.85 ERA in five July starts spanning 22 ¹/₃ innings.

He allowed 17 earned runs and five homers in that stretch.

A year ago with the Brewers, Peralta had a 2.70 ERA and finished fifth in the Cy Young Award voting. He was also an All-Star.

Green still isn’t sure of the plan for Clay Holmes.

On the trading block like Peralta, the right-hander made his second minor league rehab start Tuesday for Single-A Port St. Lucie, throwing 59 pitches across for shutout innings.

Holmes has been out since May 15 with a fractured right fibula.

The Mets will decide on a next course of action after his bullpen session Friday.

Holmes could find himself on another team by Sunday, the next time he is ready to pitch.

Since the All-Star break, the Mets bullpen has the lowest ERA in the National League at 1.93. Their relievers haven’t given up an earned run over their last 20 ¹/₃ innings.

Francisco Lindor passed Keith Hernandez and moved into 11th place on the all-time Mets RBI list with 469. … The Mets are now 17-16 against the NL East and 17 games under .500 against everyone else.
