France begin the Zinedine Zidane era when their UEFA Nations League campaign gets underway against Turkey on September 25.
Zidane was long touted as the most obvious successor to his former international teammate Didier Deschamps, who eventually called time on a 16-year spell in charge of Les Bleus with a semifinal run at the 2026 World Cup.
The ultimate challenge for Zidane is to bring an astoundingly gifted and deep generation of French talent back into the winners' circle. By the time Euro 2028 comes around, they will be a decade removed from Deschamps' finest hour at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
That journey begins with four matches over the course of the new, extended first international break of the season.
After facing Turkey, France travel to neighbouring Belgium before welcoming familiar foes Italy and the Belgians for back-to-back matches at the Stade de France.
What will we learn about the fledgling Zidane era? His maiden squad will give us a few clues.
