Four former Cardinals selected by fans for prestigious honor

The Athletic released the honorees in their MLB All-Quarter Century team as voted on by fans, and four former St. Louis Cardinals made the cut on the 40-man roster.

The first is likely the most obvious: Albert Pujols at first base. Who could forget his miracle run in his final season, making one final All-Star team and becoming the fourth player in MLB history to hit 700 homeruns, all at age 42? Beyond that, Pujols was a three-time MVP, six-time Silver Slugger, two-time Gold Glover, and the 2001 NL Rookie of the Year.

Former Cardinal Carlos Beltrán was listed as one of the two center fielders honored. Beltrán played for the Cardinals from 2011-12, earning an All-Star nod in both seasons. Overall, his hardware included nine All-Stars, two Silver Sluggers, three Gold Gloves, and the 2004 AL Rookie of the Year award.

Another iconic Cardinal named to the team was Yadier Molina at catcher. Molina's legacy is synonymous with the Cardinals in the 2000's. He spent his entire career in St. Louis spanning from 2004-22. He set the standard for defense at the position, taking home nine Gold Gloves and four Platinum Gloves. He also was a 10-time All-Star and won the Silver Slugger in 2013.

Lastly, former Cardinal Andrew Miller made it as the team's relief ace. Miller's early career as a starter was much maligned, and it wasn't until the Boston Red Sox converted him into a reliever in 2012 that his career took off. From there, he was one of the most dominant relievers in baseball. He spent the last three seasons of his career in St. Louis from 2019-21.
