A former WWE Champion has been tipped to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42. The Beast Incarnate returned to the Stamford-based promotion at SummerSlam in August after two years away.

After his shocking return, he faced John Cena at Wrestlepalooza and beat him convincingly. However, he has been on a hiatus since then, leaving fans wondering what's next for him.

It is already expected that he will be a big part of the programming once the Road to WrestleMania kicks off with the Royal Rumble next year.

Now, according to a report from Fightful Select, MyBookie has former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther as the odds-on favorite to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.

The report also adds that the match was originally planned for WrestleMania 40, before Lesnar was named in the Janel Grant lawsuit. Hence, WWE had to pivot and go with Gunther defending his Intercontinental Title against Sami Zayn at the event.

But now, it looks like those plans are back on track.

Brock Lesnar's former WrestleMania opponent wants a rematch

While Brock Lesnar missed WrestleMania 40, he competed at the Show of Shows a year prior.

The Beast Incarnate took on former RAW Tag Team Champion Omos in a singles match at WrestleMania 39. The contest ended with Lesnar defeating the Nigerian Giant inside five minutes.

However, Omos is keen to get back in the ring with the Conqueror. In an interview with TMZ Sports, he said that he is aiming to be on the card for WrestleMania 42 and wants to face Lesnar. Omos added that they need to "run it back."

WWE is likely to have Lesnar compete at WrestleMania 42, and they do have a few interesting names to pick from to face him. Anybody going up against him will receive a rub and a high-profile rub that could boost their careers.

Sherjeel Malik is a writer at Sportskeeda and covers pro wrestling. He was hooked on the product from the moment he saw The Hardy Boyz jumping off ladders during the Attitude Era. While he comes from an engineering background, Sherjeel’s love for pro wrestling and content writing led him to pursue a career in sports journalism. Before assuming his current role at Sportskeeda, Sherjeel worked at other reputable organizations for five years.

While writing articles, he ensures that he only relies on credible sources for information and covers relevant subjects that do not project an agenda against a particular person or association. WWE legend Paul Heyman once shared Sherjeel’s work on his social media handle.

Sherjeel’s earliest memory of pro wrestling is watching Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker square off for the WWE Title in the main event of a pay-per-view in 1998. His favorite wrestlers are Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy. While he admires Orton for his character work as a heel, he looks up to Jeff because of his unique wrestling style and risk-taking ability.

If he could go back to the Attitude Era, Sherjeel would like to manage Ken Shamrock and be his mouthpiece. He feels Shamrock’s promo skills prevented him from becoming a main event-level act in WWE. Hence, he would like to help the UFC Hall of Famer get over with fans.

When not writing about pro wrestling, he likes to read classics and fiction books.
