After a stellar junior campaign with San Jose State, Colby Garland is taking his talents to the ACC. On Tuesday, the talented guard committed to Georgia Tech and will look to build on his breakout 2025-2026 season with a new program. For a team in need of a boost on offense, Garland will be a welcome addition.

In his only season with the Spartans, Garland set career highs in points per game with 20.3 and assists per game with 4.6. He was also very effective from three-point range, shooting a career-high 37.2 % from beyond the arc. Due to his play, Garland was a hard piece to keep out of the lineup.

While the Arkansas native was adjusting to a new program, he made the transition seem easy. He improved across every area of his game, boosting his stock in the portal. While Garland will again be starting over, it is a situation he is familiar with.

After high school, Garland began his college career at Drake. As a Bulldog, he appeared in 31 games, averaging 5.7 points and two assists. While he was able to carve out a role, Garland only started two games during the 2023-2024 campaign. He left to find a program that could offer him more playing time.

Following a few brief stint in the portal, the newest Yellow Jacket landed at Longwood. With the Lancers, Garland saw his playing time skyrocket, as he started 28 games. He was able to make the most of his playing time, averaging 12.1 points and 0.9 steals per game. While Garland was a productive piece, he set his eyes on the transfer portal again to join Jan Jose State.

In Garland, Georgia Tech is getting a talented scorer who has taken his game to another level every year. As a junior, he showed he could handle a heavy workload and be a focal point of an offense. That will be a major boost as Georgia Tech hopes to make a deep playoff run.

Although more roster moves could be on the horizon, Georgia Tech has crossed off one of their majors needs with Garland in the mix. In just a few months, Garland will get to make his Yellow Jacket debut and show why he was highly coveted in the portal.
