Former Philadelphia 76ers head coach headed to Basketball Hall of Fame

A former Philadelphia 76ers head coach is headed to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. 

It was revealed by ESPN's Shams Charania that Doc Rivers will be part of the Hall's 2026 class, which also includes Amar'e Stoudemire, Candace Parker, Elena Delle Donne and Mark Few. 

Rivers, who is the current coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, coached the 76ers for three seasons from 2020 to 2023.

The Sixers had a winning percentage greater than 62 in each of Rivers' three seasons, and they also lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals each season under Rivers.

Eventually, the Sixers decided to move on from Rivers and hired Nick Nurse, who is currently on the hot seat at the end of his third season in Philadelphia. 

In addition to the Sixers and Bucks, Rivers also coached the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers. He has the sixth-most regular season wins and fourth-most playoff wins in NBA history, and he led the Celtics to an NBA title in 2008. He was named one of the 15 best coaches in NBA history by the league. 

Given all of the accolades and success that he's experienced, Rivers' inclusion in the Hall-of-Fame is well deserved.
