Former NBA Rookie of the Year set to make boxing debut

The professional sports to boxing pipeline is set to see another twist.

Former NBA stars such as Nate Robinson and Deron Williams are some examples. Now, it includes one former NBA Rookie of the Year winner, with Michael Carter-Williams gearing up for his professional boxing debut, per Chris Mannix of SI

"Former NBA guard Michael Carter-Williams will make his amateur boxing debut on May 29th in New York, per Uprising Promotions," Mannix tweeted. "Carter-Williams, the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2014, last played in the NBA in 2023."

Carter-Williams was the No. 11 overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2013 NBA Draft after a stellar career at Syracuse. In his rookie year, he was named the Rookie of the Year while averaging 16.7 points per game with 6.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds across 70 games.

However, his time in Philadelphia didn't last long as he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks at the 2015 NBA trade deadline. From then on, things unraveled as Carter-Williams spent time with each of the Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Hornets, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic, which would be the final stop in his NBA career.

Carter-Williams then played with the Mexico City Capitanes with hopes of trying to get back to the NBA, but now he is turning his attention to boxing.

Carter-Williams' boxing debut will be on May 29 as part of the Broad Street Brawl, hosted at the Léman Ballroom in New York City.
