Former NBA player makes bold Lakers, Thunder playoff prediction

18 hours ago 2

The Los Angeles Lakers, currently the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, are having quite the season.

A year removed from the No. 7 seed and firing Darvin Ham, JJ Redick has the team at 46-29 and looks poised for a deep playoff run.

Not having to participate in the NBA Play-In Tournament should bode wonders for the Lakers, particularly the 40-year-old LeBron James.

Instead of Anthony Davis by his side, James will head into the playoffs this time and go to battle with Luka Doncic by his side.

Former NBA player's bold Lakers playoff take

If they haven't by now, people should be taking the Lakers very seriously as a playoff contender.

Marcus Morris Sr. appeared on First Take and gave his prediction for the Western Conference.

"I got [the Lakers] coming out of the West, let's be frank. ... I wouldn't even say OKC was next," Morris said. "I would say the Clippers, I would go as far to say the Warriors over OKC. What has [the Thunder] done outside of the regular season?"

Morris Sr. points to the Thunder's lack of experience and youth as the main reason why he'd take those teams ahead of the Thunder.

That's a fair point. Oklahoma City has the youngest average roster in the league and don't really have a player you can point to and call a veteran, other than perhaps Alex Caruso.

It will be interesting to see how the Thunder's second and third options fare in the playoffs.

The Thunder made it to the Western Conference semifinals before falling to the Dallas Mavericks in six games.

While the Lakers don't have Anthony Davis inside to bully teams down low and contest shots, they have arguably the highest IQ players in the league today leading the way, and that should include Austin Reaves.
