The Boston Celtics have parted ways with longtime star Jaylen Brown in exchange for Paul George and a superb haul of draft picks from the Philadelphia 76ers. Of course, this has not gone down well with the Celtics fan base because Brown was a monumental player for the franchise over the past decade.
It was also revealed that he never sent in a trade request, so that left a bitter taste in the Celtics fans' mouths. Now, they have to deal with a 36-year-old George, who is still a solid player but is objectively a worse player than current-day Brown.
Derek Fisher believes Paul George is a great fit alongside Jayson Tatum
Now that the trade has been confirmed, it seems the Celtics are in for a rollercoaster season in the 2026-27 campaign. Many thought it would be a return to form because Jayson Tatum would be healthy, but it seems they are moving forward with him and George as the primary duo.
This is a huge change for Boston because they have gotten used to having the two Jays as their superstar partnership. With George, they still have a talented star player, but his age may be a big factor. Thankfully for Celtics fans, they still have a decent roster around them, but the ceiling won't be as high as before.

Despite the move being unpopular with Celtics fans, it seems former five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher is a big fan of the move. He thinks that George is a great fit alongside Tatum at the wing, which is one of the few positive statements about this move.
"Paul George, coming in at this point in his career and journey, will be very comfortable being a complementary player to Jayson Tatum. You won't have that 1-1A conversation like Jaylen Brown was an MVP candidate this past season. I don't know if that dynamic would be able to continue as Jayson Tatum returned," Fisher said on SiriusXM NBA Radio about George joining the Celtics.
That is a bold statement from Fisher because, despite the 1-1A discourse surrounding Tatum and Brown, they made it work. They made it to the 2022 NBA Finals, and they eventually won the championship in 2024 together. Fisher seems pleased with the trade like the Celtics organization, but the fans are an entirely different story.
