Former national team coach approves Luis Diaz's move to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich after missing on Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams have secured Luis Diaz from Liverpool as they desperately needed someone who could fill the void on the left flank.

The Bavarians were exceptionally shorthanded once Leroy Sane decided to move to Galatasaray, leaving a massive void on the left side.

While Diaz was not Bayern's prime target heading into the transfer window, they believe he can be the game changer for them in years to come.

As per The Athletic, the German champions felt that the Colombian was the best attacker available in the market and therefore they were ready to break the bank for the 28-year-old in search of immediate impact.

They believe that Diaz suits the style of play that Vincent Kompany has incorporated in Bavaria, especially due to his intense pressing, work rate whilst also looking at his goal contributions last season.

Despite the negativity on social media among fans, Bayern believe they have secured a fantastic player who will help them improve massively.

Apart from being a great player for Liverpool, Diaz has been exceptional for Colombia as well and his former national team coach Reinaldo Rueda has also lauded his move to Germany.

In an interaction with Sport1, Rueda said, "I'm very happy that he chose Bayern. I wish him all the very best. I'm sure that coach Vincent Kompany will give him the trust he needs. Liverpool was, of course, a great period in his career, but if everything goes well, Bayern can become Luis Díaz’s second great success story. If he embraces German culture and the German language, and the club does everything they can to ensure the integration of his family, then I believe we will all see the success and performances we want and that he is capable of."

Interestingly, Diaz becomes the third Colombian to feature for Bayern Munich after Adolfo Valencia and James Rodriguez.

Rodriguez had a great loan stint at Bayern, but Rueda highlighted how adapting to the conditions and culture in Germany is important.

"It is important that the club does everything possible to ensure that the player and his family feel comfortable in the new environment and can adapt. This has not always worked in Munich in the past."

"Jupp Heynckes understood Rodríguez well," said Rueda. This was perhaps also due to the fact that the Bayern coach at the time spoke fluent Spanish and had Spanish experience.

"His successor Nico Kovac, on the other hand, did not find a connection to Rodríguez."

What will Luis Diaz offer to this Bayern Munich side?

First of all, Diaz will provide Bayern Munich with a proper option on the left flank apart from his pace, dribbling, penetrative movement and exceptional work ethic.

Luis Diaz celebrates a Liverpool goal

He has been a stalwart for Colombia as well since making his debut in 2018. He has netted 19 goals from 64 matches for Los Cafeteros.

Diaz was a part of the Colombian outfit that finished as runners up in the 2024 Copa America where they lost to Argentina.

Therefore the 28-year-old has proven himself at the highest level and also in top leagues before moving to Germany.

He played a big part in helping Liverpool win the 2024/25 Premier League title, delivering his best goal output in his career with 17 goals, 13 of which came in 36 league appearances along with five assists.

Bayern and Kompany will hope that Diaz continues to perform in such manner in the upcoming season as they desperately need the Colombian to flourish in his new challenge.
