From Orange Bowl rings to the big screen, Withers is proving greatness comes in many forms.

For most Florida State fans, walk-ons don’t usually make headlines. But Tyriq Withers isn’t most walk-ons. Once a wide receiver chasing a dream in Tallahassee, Withers is now stepping onto an even bigger stage, Hollywood. His acting career is gaining momentum with a breakout role in HIM, a sports-horror thriller backed by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.

Withers’ transition from football to film didn’t happen overnight. His time at FSU shaped his grit, discipline, and ability to perform under pressure. That foundation made the leap to acting possible.

Withers joined Florida State in 2016 as a walk-on, grinding his way onto the roster. His reward? A prized Orange Bowl ring alongside future NFL stars like Dalvin Cook and Derwin James. That experience, Withers says, gave him the confidence to pursue challenges beyond football.

After leaving the program, Withers shifted his focus to acting. He landed early roles in Atlanta before securing the lead in HIM. Playing fictional quarterback Cameron Cade demanded not only screen presence, but athletic authenticity, something Withers had in spades.

Withers credits Cook’s “quiet boldness” as inspiration for his character. The same humility and toughness that carried him through FSU practices now guide him on set.

As his acting career grows, Withers stands as proof that greatness isn’t limited to the gridiron. His story reminds athletes everywhere that the skills forged in sports can open unexpected doors.
