Former Dodgers hyped up prospect expected to be traded, proving Los Angeles right once again

1 hour ago 3

There was once a time when many Los Angeles Dodgers fans were hopeful that Dustin May was not only going to be a really good arm in Major League Baseball, but perhaps one of the core pieces of the Dodgers’ long-term future.

The Dodgers, fortunately, didn't really need May to be that guy because of all the impressive moves that they made over the past few years.

As a result, he's been around the league a bit recently and now finds himself with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals have played fine this year, but there's still an expectation that May is going to be traded.

The right-hander should find himself with a contender at the deadline, so long as things go as planned, putting another twist in the future of the former Dodgers top prospect.

“The Cardinals, in fact, are expected to trade reliever JoJo Romero and starter Dustin May at the trade deadline, providing they slip further back in the wild-card race,” Bob Nightengale wrote.

This is exactly why I think the Dodgers need to make the moves that they have in recent years. Not only that, but at this trade deadline, there's really no reason for the Dodgers to prospect hug.

There's no guarantee that guys are going to be incredible players at the highest level, and if they can trade for somebody like Tarik Skubal, who already has proven that he is one of the best starters in Major League Baseball, it's better to make that move for him and move on from prospects than to hope those prospects can be anything that he is in the future.
