Former Chelsea player says 'you can't keep making mistakes' following loss

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel had strong words for Nicolas Jackson following the forward's dismissal in Chelsea's 1-3 loss to Flamengo in the Club World Cup.

Jackson, who came into the game minutes before, was shown a red card after a dangerous tackle on Flamengo's Ayrton Lucas.

The Senegalese forward was also sent off late in the Premier League season in an important game against Newcastle. His recklessness in big games is now being questioned by many supporters and even former players.

What did John Obi Mikel have to say about Jackson's red card?

Mikel spoke to DAZN about Jackson's sending off and said, "Unbelievable. Stupid, stupid, stupid mistake."

At the time of the challenge, Chelsea were down 2-1 but had enjoyed a lively game. Chelsea's new signing Liam Delap had made his debut at the start of the game, before being replace by Jackson.

Mikel further criticized Jackson, saying, "He did it in the important Premier League game against Newcastle, when we needed to win to qualify for the Champions League places, and he has done it again. You can't keep making mistakes."

"Jackson needs to have a look at himself and think where he wants his Chelsea career to go from here."

Mikel played over 300 games for Chelsea and won a variety of trophies with the club, including two Premier League titles. The defensive midfielder was a leader on the pitch, something he says the club is now lacking.

The midfielder said, "I don't see that here, I don't see leaders. I just see players making mistakes."

Jackson's red card means he'll be suspended for a minimum of one game, which will see the forward miss Chelsea's final group stage match against Esperance Sportive de Tunis on Wednesday.
