When Nobody Wants This was first released in September 2024, the series filled a gap in TV. In a world full of mysteries, thrillers and sitcom comedies, Nobody Wants This, starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, delivered a feel-good and well-written romance. From their instant chemistry in the first episode to the challenges of navigating their different lifestyles and religious beliefs, Bell's Joanne and Brody's Noah reminded viewers that falling in love is often the easy part. Making a relationship work is another story entirely.

But as Nobody Wants This gets ready to release its third season later this month, on October 22, 2026, there's another romance series on Hulu and Disney+ that will have viewers all in their feels. Benefits With Friends (or Amor da Minha Vida in Portuguese), which first premiered on November 22, 2024, is a Brazilian TV series that follows two longtime friends as they navigate complicated relationships, career disappointments, family struggles, and the possibility that the person they've been looking for has been right in front of them all along.

What Is 'Benefits With Friends' About?

The series follows main characters Bia (Bruna Marquezine) and Victor (Sérgio Malheiros) in sun-soaked Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They meet by chance at a party, spend the entire night chatting and getting to know one another, but when Bia leans in for a kiss, Victor pulls away. As it turns out, he's in a long-term relationship, one in which the peak of romance is watching reality TV together in bed, while Bia's used to having a long string of brief, meaningless flings. From that night onwards, Bia and Victor became each other's best friends and confidants, calling each other Silvio and Fausto in honor of two of Brazil's most famous TV personalities, Silvio Santos and Faustão, and relying on each other at every step of the way.

In the first season, both Bia and Victor undergo major transformations. While Bia finally lets her guard down when she meets and connects with Marcelo (Danilo Mesquita), she struggles to get her acting career off the ground. Then, when a betrayal from Marcelo comes to light, she's forced to reckon with the emotional fallout. For Victor, his world turns upside down when he finds his girlfriend Luiza (Malu Rodrigues) cheating on him. Bia challenges him to move forward, put his ex behind him, and that's when he meets Paula (Rayssa Bratillieri), a woman unlike anyone he's ever met, and whose approach to life challenges his established expectations. Throughout it all, the show toys with the idea that Bia and Victor are, in reality, each other's person, but being together is far from an easy ride.

Like 'Nobody Wants This,' 'Benefits With Friends' Knows Love Isn't Simple

Much like Nobody Wants This, Benefits With Friends centers around two central characters with an undeniable spark and connection, but whose reality is much more complicated than just finding love and living their happily ever after. Especially in the newly released Season 2, which premiered on October 9, 2026, Bia and Victor get tested, not only by outside forces but by themselves too. Early in the season, Bia pays a visit to her estranged and abusive father, who now has an entirely new family and kids. Hoping for a positive encounter, she goes in without knowing what to expect, only for her father to reveal his true colors within hours. The encounter not only rocks Bia, but also has her questioning her own morals and intentions. Has she inherited her father's worst qualities? Is she selfish for pursuing her career when Victor would do anything to be with her? And, perhaps most painfully, is she even worthy of the kind of love he could offer her?

Bia's doubts add another dimension to the series' central romance. There's no uncertainty for her about whether Victor loves her and, instead, her doubts stem from whether she can accept that love without allowing her own fears and natural instincts to sabotage it. In that aspect, her journey echoes Joanne's in Nobody Wants This. Both women must confront the insecurities that threaten to undermine their relationships, even when their feelings for their partners are never really in question.

Much like Nobody Wants This, Benefits With Friends has its own way of exploring the complications of falling in love. And while Bia and Victor's relationship adds more players to the mix, including exes-turned-friends on both of their sides, the series, unlike Nobody Wants This, which is clearly classified as a comedy, doesn't shy away from the not-so-exciting parts about finding love, building a relationship, and making it work against the odds. Bia and Victor must reckon with what love means, what they want from their relationship, and what happens when finding that person doesn't make everything else fall into place. Ultimately, Benefits With Friends asks a question that makes its central romance so compelling: Even when two people love each other, is love alone enough to make a relationship last?
