Look the other way.
While most plane passengers usually get pissed off at snoring seatmates and crying babies, on one particular flight, flyers had a totally different bone to pick, having to do with a little pooch.
In a short clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), a small dog is comfortably sitting on its owner’s tray table facing the window, and people are losing their minds over it.
It could be argued that some parents plop their little tots on those same tray tables, but something about a dog’s bum perched on there really pissed many off.
X user @TheEXECUTlONER_ was one of these outraged people who wrote above the 7-second clip, “…You know I love dogs but this [is] totally unacceptable. Dogs are supposed to remain in their carrier the entire flight….That’s just wrong. Disgusting. Don’t forget to bring wipes with you and clean off your tray tables.”
Despite the naysayers, the perched dog looked quite comfortable. X/@TheEXECUTlONER_“What would you have done? Would you have said something directly to the dog owner or would you have let the airline attendants handle it?” the annoyed caption continued.
The user isn’t wrong.
The general rule for most airlines when flying with fur babies is that small dogs should be tucked under the seat in front of its ownder in a portable crate while larger dogs are required to travel in a temperature-controlled cargo hold.
The only exception to this rule, of course, is trained service dogs who are allowed to sit on their human’s lap or on the floor.
Most airlines require small dogs to be placed in a portable crate or carry-on bag while in flight. nadisja – stock.adobe.comThe tricky thing about this very unsanitary situation is that the dog didn’t seem to be wearing a harness or vest indicating that it’s a service dog — so how did the nervy owner get away with this?
It’s unknown how the flight attendants handled the eye-rolling situation, but unsurprisingly, many in the post’s comment section had a lot to say about it.
“People are unbelievable,” one wrote.
“Love dogs, but a tray table isn’t a dog bed. Airline rules exist for a reason — let the flight crew handle it,” a comment read.
“Yuck. In the defense of the dog, it’s apparent its owner has no lap for the dog to even sit on her lap,” someone else chimed in.
“Maybe it’s just me, but I thought the plane was cleaned after every flight??” a commenter questioned.
