Todd Golden has become one name to watch during the upcoming NBA offseason. The Florida Gators coach has been linked to the predicted opening with the Golden State Warriors, but is he willing to make the jump?
Golden cleared the air with reporters on Wednesday and asked what his plans are next season. He fired back about speculation and reaffirmed his role in Gainesville.
“That’s an interesting question,” Golden said via a video from Field of 68. “I’m definitely planning on coaching the Gators.”
— The Field of 68 (@TheFieldOf68) April 22, 2026We've heard this song and dance before. Will Wade told reporters in Raleigh he was at NC State for the foreseeable future while purchasing a house in Baton Rouge. Lane Kiffin sold the idea of Ole Miss' best season ever while planning his LSU exit.
Not saying Golden's situation is similar by any means. But coaching in the NBA seems to be on his bucket list. If not, there wouldn't be an entire section dedicated to him being in the league in his buyout.
If Steve Kerr is done in Golden State, Golden to the Warriors is expected to heat up.
“If Kerr leaves, the Warriors will pursue Florida Gators head coach Todd Golden, according to my league sources," NBA insider Kevin O’Connor said. "Golden is the coach that they’re targeting, and that’s in part because the Lacob family has a relationship with him."

Golden is only a year removed from his national title win in the 2024-25 season. Also, Florida revamped the roster with Thomas Haugh as the centerpiece after turning down the NBA Draft.
