In the last four seasons, Billy Napier didn't set the tone in Gainesville. Despite having playmakers like quarterback DJ Lagway, the Gators couldn't put it together and sent the coach packing on Sunday.
Napier was 22-23 overall and 11-16 in SEC during tenure in Gainesville. Perhaps the most interesting part of the saga with the Gators football program is how things have progressively gone south, no pun intended. With a new coach being hired in the coming weeks, there's no room for error given the last two hires have failed to produce real success.
But Lagway's focus isn't the coaching carousel. He's focused on the team and what's at stake in the final games of the season. Will he stay in Gainesville past 2025 or move on? "I'm a Florida Gator, man," Lagway told reporters. "My biggest focus right now is these five games and to continue to get better at my craft and develop."

Even in a winning effort on Saturday against Mississippi State, the Florida fans made their voices heard with Napier being fired. The worst kept secret in college football means he'll receive a $21 million payout with half due within the next 30 days.
Lagway was one of the biggest names that Napier signed to the program. However, his ties to Florida might be superficial and another program with better potential could be better suited for the soon-to-be junior passer.
Florida will now have a bye week and then a chance to get back to .500 against rival Georgia in Jacksonville.
