Florida's FHSAA softball district tournaments have begun, the first step in a four-week process to determine the champions in each of the state's eight classifications.

The Sunshine State has six teams ranked in the latest edition of MaxPreps national rankings with the No. 24 Cardinal Gibbons [Fort Lauderdale, FL] Chiefs leading the way. The Chiefs compete in the FHSAA's Class 3A division, and they are the only nationally-ranked team at that level.

The state's second-level Class 6A ranks, meanwhile, feature three Top 50 teams, including the No. 28 Doral [FL] Academy Firebirds, No. 35 Melbourne [FL] Bulldogs, and No. 50 Pace [FL] Patriots.

The district tournaments will continue through Thursday, April 30, before the state tournament brackets are filled out heading into next week's regional quarterfinals.
