Fire Breaks Out at Golden Globes 2026

Golden Globes 2026: Sinners' Wunmi Mosaku Debuts Pregnancy on Red Carpet

The 2026 Golden Globes is fire… literally.

Shortly after the awards show—hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., Jan. 11—kicked off, a commotion occurred backstage when a fire broke out in the hotel.

“Crisis averted inside #GoldenGlobes backstage press room as catering knocked over a coffee holder and the sterno underneath was lit,” Chris Gardner, a reporter for The Hollywood Reporter, wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “For a brief moment, the carpet was on fire and smoke wafted up around the curtains.”

Despite the harrowing moment, the fire was distinguished. As he put it, “They put it out quickly fortunately. Yikes!”

While the fire took place elsewhere in the Beverly Hilton, awards continued to be handed out in the ballroom. Indeed, instead of panic the audience was all laughter as Seth Rogen accepted the trophy for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for his role as Matt Remick in The Studio

“This is so weird. We just pretended to do this, and now it's happening,” Seth quipped from stage, referencing his character Matt Remick winning a Golden Globe in the Apple TV+ series. “Thought the only way I would get to hold one is to create a whole show to give myself a fake one.”

The 43-year-old also shouted out his fellow nominees Adam Brody, Glen Powell, Jeremy Allen White, Martin Short and Steve Martin

“The other nominees, it's incredible,” he continued. “Steve Martin and Martin Short, especially. I remember growing up watching you guys my whole life thinking one day I'm going to beat them.”

And in the end, Seth thanked his costars, including Kathryn Hahn, Chase Sui Wonders and Catherine O’Hara.

“An actor is really only as good as the people to get to perform with,” he said, “and I'm very lucky in that I get to choose those people. So, I really want to thank the other performers on the show.”
