If you watch the Indiana Fever enough, it becomes quickly apparent that Caitlin Clark probably should get even more assists than she does.
A few times a game, she throws a brilliant pass, only for her teammate to not quite deliver on their end of the bargain.
Usually, though, there's something difficult about the play. Maybe a tough-to-reach pass, or a lengthy shot still to follow after the great feed.
On Saturday night in a loss to the New York Liberty, though, there was no further difficulty.
Clark threw a great pass up the court to Kelsey Mitchell.
Mitchell, one of the WNBA's best scorers, inexplicably missed the wide open layup.

— HeroOfTheDay (@Hero_OfThe_Day) June 7, 2026To give Mitchell the smallest grace, this was with her off-hand.
But still -- the reason Clark is so potentially great a player to have is because she can make plays like that one, setting up her teammate so well in addition to the long-range shooting that people recognize in Clark's game.
On this particular night, it even cost Clark a double-double -- she finished with 10 points and 9 assists.
And who knows whether it impacts the outcome of the game if the Fever get that hoop instead of not.
It's just a brutal little moment, and one that Clark did everything she could without getting the help she needed.
