Fernando Mendoza's NFL career will kick off in earnest on Thursday night.
The Indiana alum emerged from nowhere to become college football's preeminent quarterback, anchoring the Hoosiers to their first-ever national championship while securing a pile of individual honors for himself, including the Heisman Trophy.
Mendoza isn't expected to start out of the gate; Kirk Cousins has taken first-team snaps in training camp. Still, it's only a matter of time before the 22-year-old gets a chance to make his mark at the senior level.
The eye-catching hurler will look to use Las Vegas' preseason opener as a platform to convince Klint Kubiak to give him the reins to the Raiders' attack. He should get ample time to flaunt his talents when matched up against the Cardinals, who conceded the sixth-most yards in the league last year.
