Felix Auger-Aliassime and Zhang Zhizhen are set to clash in the Round Robin phase of the 2026 United Cup on Day 3 of the annual international mixed team tennis tournament.

Auger-Aliassime enjoyed a memorable 2025 tennis season. The Canadian, whose performances and results were underwhelming for the most part spanning 2023 and 2024, won three ATP 250 titles last year (Adelaide, Montpellier, Brussels). He also registered semifinal finishes at the US Open and the year-end ATP Finals. These impressive results led to the 25-year-old ending the 2025 season as the World No. 5 in men's singles tennis.

For Zhang though, the majority of the past year was rather forgettable. The 29-year-old spent six months on the sidelines due to a persistent right shoulder problem and upon making his comeback for the Asian hardcourt swing towards the end of the 2025 season, he was far from being the player who was on the cusp of breaking into the ATP singles top 30 back in 2024. Zhang is currently ranked No. 410.

Zhang holds a 1-0 head-to-head lead over Auger-Aliassime. The Chinese won the pair's only ATP Tour-level encounter so far 6-4, 6-4 in a Round of 16 clash in Marseille two years ago.

On paper, the Canadian is the overwhelming favorite to defeat the Chinese in their 2026 United Cup Round Robin phase clash. This is due to the former's encouraging form and multiple confidence-boosting results in 2025 and also because of the latter's lengthy ATP Tour-level absence with injury.

At the same time though, Zhang is likely to draw encouragement from his straight-set victory against Auger-Aliassime in their 2024 meeting in Marseille. However, in all probability, the former No. 31's questionable match fitness, combined with the current World No. 5's highly regarded athleticism, will result in a win for the Canadian.
