A wildfire in Mendocino County exploded to more than 500 acres Saturday as authorities issued urgent evacuation orders.

The Feliz Fire started burning in the Hopland area Saturday afternoon and began “spreading at a dangerous rate,” according to a CALFIRE update at 4:25 p.m.

It grew from 40 acres to more than 500 acres in less than three hours, leading to evacuation orders in two zones.
