Falcons' Drake London bulldozed HC Raheem Morris in practice drill, flaunts killer mentality

The Atlanta Falcons are looking to take a big step forward offensively in Year 2 under offensive coordinator Zac Robinson. Last season, the Falcons’ offense had its moments but began to stall just past the midway point. Now, Robinson is working to incorporate Washington’s former offensive scheme into the playbook to help starter Michael Penix Jr. thrive.

“According to former NFL coach Jon Gruden, the Atlanta Falcons and offensive. coordinator Zac Robinson are studying the 23-24 Washington Huskies playbook. The playbook used when Michael Penix Jr. lead the team to the national championship, Robinson intends to mimick that,” Atlanta sports analyst Chris Alberts wrote.

Atlanta also has a dominant weapon in wide receiver Drake London, who’s approaching a major payday. GM Terry Fontenot is closely studying the market before finalizing a contract extension.

“There are times that as you study the market, there are times going early to the market can be beneficial when you're looking at it, but then there's also times, if you look historically, that it's OK to wait to the appropriate time," Fontenot said. "So, we weigh those factors. We're constantly studying contracts that come in and studying the market and what we expect and trying to anticipate things."

London has openly embraced a ruthless mindset on the field, and his intensity comes through in how he talks about his game.

“Don’t get it wrong. If the ball is thrown to me every play, I’m going to be just as happy as well. This is an alpha WR1 kill, kill everything. Because even if I’m blocking, even if I’m running a guy out, I’m still going to try to kill you regardless of what it is. What sets me apart from the rest is that in all three phases of the game, I’m going to try to kill you,” London said.

That mentality was on full display Monday during a drill against head coach Raheem Morris. In what appeared to be a one-on-one drill, London bulldozed his head coach off the line.

While the drill was all in good fun, it was another clear example of London’s relentless energy—even in practice, even against Morris. London looks poised for a breakout season, just like the rest of the Falcons’ offense. On Monday, it was London getting the last laugh over his coach.
