The Montreal Canadiens are in news because of rumors around their prospect Alexander Zharovsky. In late June, during the second day of the 2025 NHL draft, they traded picks 41 and 49 to the Carolina Hurricanes. In that trade, they received the 34th pick, which they used to draft Zharovsky.

The 18 years old Canadiens prospect is a right winger from Klin, Russia. Zharovsky. Prior to getting drafted, he scored 24 goals and 26 assists in 45 MHL games for Tolpar UFA. This season, he received time in the KHL and has nine points in 11 games.

On Monday, A video from HFTV created rumors about Zharovsky’s plans. In the video, their insider claimed that the Habs prospect wants to come to Canada soon.

"He [Zharovsky] wants to be in Canada soon. Soon, in terms of where he's at in his development next year." The HFTV insider said.

He further added that he expects Zharovsky to arrive after the 2026 Winter Olympics, scheduled to take place in February 2026 in Italy. He also stressed that his current contract, keeping him in KHL until 2027, is not going to be a problem.

However, NHL agent Dan Milstein responded to the video on X, disapproving of the claims of Zharovsky's move to Canada.

"No insider," Milstein said. "No truth. Just fake news and self-promotion. Alex Zharovskiy is under KHL contract until 2027. #WeAreGoldStar!"

Sooner or later, Zharovsky is ultimately going to debut with the Canadiens, but for now, these claims appear not to be true. Meanwhile, the Habs are doing well this season; they have a 7-3-0 record and are sitting first in the Atlantic Division.

Montreal Canadiens' Patrik Laine undergoes surgery

On Sunday, Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine underwent a core muscle surgery. Now, he is expected to miss three to four months, and there is a rare possibility of his recovery until late January.

Habs official X account shared the news on X, writing:

"MEDICAL UPDATE: Forward Patrik Laine underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury. The procedure was performed by Dr. Mark Zoland at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York. Laine's recovery period is estimated to be three to four months."

Before the injury, Laine had one assist in five games this season. In his absence, the Habs' power play will take a hit, because last season, he scored 15 power-play goals. It's a major setback, but Montreal will aim to win games to make it to the playoffs again this year.
