36-year-old American Jarrell Miller has unexpectedly withdrawn from his WBA Interim heavyweight title fight with Fabio Wardley.
The event, due to take place at Portman Road in England on June 7, is believed to still be going ahead, with a replacement opponent now the priority for British promoter Frank Warren.
At the time of writing, it's not been revealed exactly why "Big Baby" Miller has withdrawn from the championship contest.
The New Yorker was aggressively declaring his intentions to "f--k Wardley up real bad" during the launch press conference last month at the English football stadium.
With the fight date still two months away, it's currently a real mystery as to why he has decided to withdraw completely. If he had incurred an injury, his team would most likely have reported it and attempted to reschedule the fight date.
The former British champion Fabio Wardley is currently the WBA #1, and there's a whole host of credible opponents just beneath him in the world rankings, such as Michael Hunter and Filip Hrgovic.
The 30-year-old Ipswich FC fan last fought in October 2024, where he defeated British rival Frazer Clarke in their rematch to retain his British, Commonwealth and WBA Continental titles.
Unbeaten in 19 bouts, he earned his No.1 ranking with the World Boxing Association with three defences of his WBA Continental strap, which he held since April 2023.
Everyone is now waiting to see who Wardley's replacement opponent will be, but if he is still going to challenge for the vacant WBA Interim title, then it will have to be an opponent with a world-ranking.
