Explaining new Celtic Georges Niang's past feud with Jaylen Brown

8 hours ago 1

The Celtics have officially torn apart their 2024 championship core.

In less than 24 hours, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis were traded away for financial reasons.

The Celtics didn't get as big of a return as they did for Holiday, in the Porzingis trade, receiving Georges Niang and a second-round pick.

Interestingly enough, Niang joins a team with a fanbase that wasn't happy with Niang for an incident he had with Jaylen Brown a couple of years ago.

What was the incident between Niang and Brown?

During the second round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs, the 76ers and Celtics faced off.

It was a great series that went back and forth, requiring a Game 7 to decide who would advance to the ECF.

At the time, Georges Niang was on the 76ers.

During the second quarter of Game 7, Jaylen Brown made a hustle play to save the ball from going out of bounds.

He ran in the direction of the 76ers' bench and was able to save it just before he went out of bounds.

When he went to run back on offense, Niang, who was on the bench, grabbed Brown's leg as he tried to run away.

This led to some words exchanged between the two players, and both players were given technical fouls.

Now that the two will be teammates next season, assuming he doesn't get rerouted, they will have to put their differences aside as teammates.
