Despite a decorated career at Arizona State, Myles ‘Ghost’ Rowser did not receive an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine in February.
Instead, the hard-hitting safety kept training on his own, using the slight as motivation to prove that early evaluation incorrect.
“It was somewhat upsetting, but I’m using it as fuel to keep going,” Rowser told the Sporting News in an exclusive interview. “I’ve got a plan and I’ve got faith. I believe in my plan.”
Rowser, who was third-team All-Big 12 last season for the Sun Devils, says he has spoken with 30 NFL teams during the draft process.
The ones that have shown a particular interest? The 49ers, Chiefs, Steelers, Eagles, Cardinals and Seahawks.
“I’ve gotten a lot of great feedback,” Rowser said. “Teams are interested. I’m really just waiting to see how it will all play out.”
Rowser played the past two years in Tempe, Arizona, a stone’s throw away from the Cardinals’ facility. He could see himself remaining in the state to begin his professional career.
“I love Arizona,” Rowser said. “The environment, the weather. I really do think that helps, them being neighbors to us, and me being here for two years.”
The Cardinals have one of the best safeties in the NFL on their roster, and Rowser says there are similarities between his play-style and that of Budda Baker.
“I feel like me and him kind of resemble each other,” Rowser said. “We’ll both get in there and be fearless.”
The 49ers have also stood out during the pre-draft process.
“The talk we had at the Shrine Bowl, I feel like they really paid attention to me as a player,” Rowser said. “They had a relationship with my DC, coach (Brian) Ward. They are definitely on the list.”
Rowser has a big event coming soon, as he will work out at Arizona State’s Pro Day on March 27th. When asked about goals, Rowser pinpoints one immediately.
“I want to run a 4.4,” Rowser said. “That’s the only goal I got.”
Rowser is expected to be joined by potential top-10 pick Jordyn Tyson at Pro Day. Rowser explained why Tyson has turned himself into such a top NFL prospect.
“It’s really his preparation,” Rowser said. “The way he gets ready for anything he’s doing, whether it be workouts, weight room, practice. Whatever it is, he pays attention to full detail.”
Rowser said facing off with Tyson in practice helped his own game grow.
“He’s one of the greatest I’ve ever gone against, personally, so he definitely made me better,” Rowser said.
While he won’t be picked as high as Tyson, Rowser has NFL draft buzz, though it’s hard to know if and when he will get picked. Many analysts project him as a Day 3 pick or priority free agent.
“I heard my stock went up after I played in the Shrine Bowl, but I didn’t hear anything after that, as far as a round,” Rowser said. “I’d really say it’s unknown, for real.”
If he does hear his name get called in the draft, Rowser said it would be the culmination of a years-long dream.
“It most definitely has been a goal for a long time,” he said. “It’s coming real fast. I’m very excited for it.”
