Former New York Yankees utility man DJ LeMahieu doesn't have a home this offseason, and while it seems very likely that he might just call it a career, others seem to think that he still has something left in him.
It's tough to find a place for LeMahieu, as he struggled a ton with the Yankees before he was let go, but we have to remember that he dealt with a lot of injuries, and at one point, he was one of the better-hitting infielders in baseball. Perhaps some of that talent didn't just go away.
Austin Owens of FanSided predicted that he'll end up with a new team, projecting him to sign with the Seattle Mariners.
“D.J. LeMahieu has the potential to do all of those things and then some. This would be a great pick up for the Seattle Mariners. Seattle have inserted themselves back into playoff contention for the foreseeable future but could really use some depth for comfort.
“LeMahieu can play multiple positions and has all the accolades a team could ask for in a veteran presence. He is a three-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner, two-time Silver Slugger, and has won two batting titles.”
There are definitely some positives that he can bring to a baseball field, but the Mariners just don't really need him right now. If there's something Seattle needs, it'd be on the offensive side of the baseball.
Sadly, LeMahieu just isn't that type of guy anymore.
