Klay Thompson hasn’t appeared in a game with the Golden State Warriors since Apr. 16, 2024, as he finished with a donut in the scoring column against the Sacramento Kings in the No. 9 vs. No. 10 Western Conference Play-In Game before being shipped to the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade.
However, according to a report from The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer, a reunion with the Dubs two years later could be in the cards for the four-time NBA champion guard.
“He’s (Thompson) had interest in playing with LeBron in the past,” Jake Fischer said on “The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer reported Tuesday.” “I do think that there would be excitement from both sides, of Golden State and Klay, to really go out on a high note.”
Reuniting with Thompson while beating out the rest of their fierce competition for James would be an ideal scenario for the Dubs. Thompson isn’t the all-around player he used to be in his prime, but his dynamic, high-volume perimeter shooter hasn’t disappeared. The Washington product is coming off a season in which he connected on 38.3% from beyond the arc on 527 attempts, proving he can still light it up in spot-up shooting situations in his late 30s.
James would serve as Golden State’s most effective fastbreak finisher and straight line drive, as he’s a highlight waiting to happen when he kicks things into second gear and aggressively attacks his opponents' top foot. The former Cleveland Cavaliers phenomenon scored 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025-26 as a third option.
Essentially, the Warriors would find it easier to find their touch from three-point land and put pressure on the rim with Thompson and James in the fold, making Fischer’s intel far from head-scratching.
