Ex-Warriors star Klay Thompson being floated as option for 60-win East team

It's interesting to think about what the Golden State Warriors have been over the past few years since moving on from Klay Thompson.

Not that Thompson would be changing much about how the Warriors currently look, but sometimes it's good to have veterans like that around the clubhouse to make an impact on and off the court.

At this stage of Thompson's career, he's still an above-average three-point shooter, but a return to Golden State seems very, very unlikely.

Perhaps we can never count anything out, but it doesn't feel like something that will happen anytime soon. However, that doesn't mean other teams won't make a move for him, with the Detroit Pistons recently being floated as a potential option.

“The Bucks agreed to take Caris LeVert off the Pistons’ hands in a deal for Gary Harris and Taurean Prince, players who might not stick with Detroit, but do make some sense as much-needed 3-point threats. The Pistons have created some cap space and are more than $40 million below the luxury tax.

“Pistons fans are holding out hope that the team will bring in another player–Peyton Watson? Tyler Herro? Kevin Durant? Klay Thompson?–but the team could simply use the cushion to increase their offer to Jalen Duren and stay under the tax. The Pistons can sign Duren to a four-year deal worth about $190 million, or a five-year deal for $250 million and stay under the tax,” Sean Deveny wrote.

The Pistons have attempted to make some interesting moves throughout the offseason, even adding sharpshooter Isaiah Joe.

After last season, showing that they could be one of the best teams in the NBA on any given night, it's not crazy to think that they could be going after another player like Thompson.

It'll be interesting to see him in Detroit at this stage of his career, as I have my fair share of questions as to how he looks defensively in a playoff set, but this is still one of the greatest shooters of all time that we're talking about, and he could be used, even if it's mainly in the regular season.
