By many measures, it looks like Quinn Ewers made a mistake.
The Texas quarterback was drafted in the seventh round on Saturday by the Miami Dolphins.
He left for the NFL despite having a year of college eligibility remaining.
Ewers is slotted to earn $4.3 million over four years with the Dolphins.
Maybe he didn't want to stay at Texas with Arch Manning looming. But the transfer portal was a real option.
Given that Nico Iamaleava got more than $1 million per year from UCLA despite controversy, it's safe to say that Ewers could've earned more in another college season than he will in the pro ranks this year.
He also could've improved his draft stock a bit if he played well enough.
"It was a mistake for Ewers to leave college football early," The Athletic's Chris Vannini wrote.

The counterpoint is that Ewers grew up rooting for Texas and likely didn't want to play for another school.
And Ewers certainly made plenty of money already in his time at Texas.
Miami isn't a bad landing spot for opportunity, given Tua Tagovailoa's injury troubles and the strong receivers there.
To be fair to Ewers, he was projected more in the third-to-fifth round range.
If he had known he'd be a seventh-round pick, he may have made a different choice.
But maybe it was just time to move on from school and into the professional ranks.
