The Atlanta Braves were facing another elimination game against the Philadelphia Phillies, their third this decade. After losing the previous two, many fans had unsettling feelings about how the game was going to go. However, the players didn’t feel that way at all.
The Braves had a huge night offensively, scoring all of their runs on home runs.
“Powered by a three-run homer by Michael Harris II in the first inning and an electric four-out relief appearance on one day of rest by ace Chris Sale, the Atlanta Braves finished the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in the deciding Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series on Thursday night at Truist Park. The Braves earned their first playoff series win against the Phillies and will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division series, which begins Saturday,” ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel wrote.
During the broadcast, former Cincinnati Reds legend Joey Votto made his first announcing curse. He claimed the Braves would not score another run in the game.
“I do not see the Braves scoring any more runs the rest of the way,” Votto said on the air.
Two batters later, Ozzie Albies would send a two-run blast on a fastball right down the middle. It was something for sure, as it was the nail in the coffin. Friday morning, Votto apologized to the Braves while also trolling them a little bit.
“Braves fans, I want to sincerely apologize for guessing so incorrectly, dismissing your offense. I hear you. Good luck in your next series in Los Angeles. Dodgers in 5,” Votto posted.
The call was definitely premature and one that maybe didn’t need to be made considering it was only the fourth inning. However, if Votto had nailed it, he would have looked like a genius.
The first baseman knows how to have some fun and is already trolling the Braves by claiming the Dodgers will win the series. For the Braves, hopefully he is wrong about the outcome of the NLDS as well.
