Ex-Laker superstar LeBron James not expected to make decision until August after Adam Silver comment

All eyes have been on LeBron James this summer as he weighs his options after spending eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. James has reportedly narrowed his list to five finalists, including the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors.

The process has now stretched to nearly a month. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently admitted he hopes James makes a decision soon because of the league's scheduling process.

“I would like him to make his announcement already, so he can finish the schedule. Because as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule. But it will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, etc,” Silver said.

It has been an interesting few weeks, as James has remained mostly quiet throughout the process. However, 92.3 The Fan Cleveland's Andy Baskin revealed that James may have been ready to announce his decision before Silver made those comments.

“Here's what I was told yesterday by a reliable source. Last week, LeBron's crew was probably ready to make an announcement. 'Irritated' was the word I was told, by the commissioner pushing them...so they decided to hold back,” Baskin said.

That report adds another layer to the situation and suggests James wants to make the announcement on his own timeline. Following Silver's comments, it is now widely expected that James' decision will not come until August.

“After projecting a decision from LeBron James this week, many around the NBA now believe this could ultimately be delayed into early August. The final notable wave of free agency will continue to be stalled out until LeBron makes an announcement,” NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote.

The entire process has been a whirlwind for the NBA community, as there is still no clear indication of when James will make his decision. As a four-time NBA champion and one of the league's biggest stars, James has earned the right to announce his next destination on his own terms.

While there is no indication that James has any issue with Silver personally, the latest reports suggest he wants to make it clear that this decision belongs entirely to him and his family. Ultimately, the timing of the announcement appears to be theirs to determine.
