After stepping away from the game, former Miami Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater decided to return, and it sounds like there were a few reasons for that.
Bridgewater opened up about his decision to return, recently signing a deal with the Detroit Lions. He admitted that he loves football, and with the past couple of years of him trying out different things, he recognized that he wanted to be back on the field.
“I don’t know what it is. I don’t know if it’s my children or just being back home, but it’s just something in me that’s just like, ‘Man, you know what? I could do this again,’” Bridgewater said. “The past couple years I was one foot in, one foot out, contemplating retirement, contemplating playing, coaching, doing all these different things.”
Trying out different things is something a lot of veteran players go through late in their careers. However, Bridgewater was able to do a lot of different things, and unfortunately, he got put in a tough situation in his high school coaching career, as there were some unfair rules that led to problems that should have never happened.
“And now it’s like, ‘OK. I’ve coached. I know what that’s like. I’ve been retired. I know what that’s like.’ But I just want to keep playing ball.”
At this stage of his career, Bridgewater is nothing more than a backup or practice squad quarterback. However, there's always value in having veterans around, especially one that everybody seems to like.
