Ex-Celtics' star goes viral by fulfilling promise after Game 2 loss to Knicks

The Boston Celtics’ blown lead in game one of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks left fans uneasy. Still, the chance to respond in game two gave reason for optimism. Former Celtics champion Paul Pierce echoed that sentiment on FS1’s “Speak” on Wednesday, delivering a confident statement.

“If the Celtics lose game two at home, I’m walking here tomorrow, 15 miles! In my robe, no shoes on, barefoot… Put the house on this game!”

After the Celtics missed 45 three-point attempts and gave up a 20-point lead to the Knicks in game one, Pierce watched as New York once again rallied from a 20-point hole to win on Boston’s home court.

Pierce shared on Instagram that he was indeed sticking to his word. Pierce was not barefoot, but he did wear a robe as he posted videos documenting his walk.

He said he lives about 20 miles from the FS1 studio, a distance that would take roughly eight hours to walk. In his posts, he continued to express complaints about the challenge and disbelief at the Celtics’ game two loss.

Just before setting out, Pierce shared a map of the route he intended to walk from his home to the studio. Mountains are part of the route he showed.

Pierce was reminded that bold on-air predictions often come with consequences, and he deserves credit for following through.
