ESPN insider says the quiet part out loud about Chicago Bears offseason

8 hours ago 2

The Chicago Bears made several moves early in free agency, but it’s obvious that the roster is still a work in progress. While general manager Ryan Poles has done what he’s needed to do, some believe the Bears need to get better on the defensive side of the football.

Replacing established contributors with new faces always brings risk, and while Chicago has done a decent job, there’s more that has to be done.

One of the biggest concerns is at cornerback. Having reliable corners in coverage is just as important as anything else, especially with the way teams like to throw the football nowadays.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell highlighted that concerns, adding that Chicago needs to complete its offseason by going out and landing a corner.

“On defense, though, there’s still work to be done,” Barnwell wrote. “[Bears GM Ryan] Poles admitted that the Bears were interested in trading for Maxx Crosby, and Chicago could still add another pass rusher. But for now, the pursuit of a star edge rusher appears to be on the back burner.

“The Bears released Tremaine Edmunds and replaced him with former Browns starter Devin Bush, while safeties Jaquan Brisker, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Kevin Byard III — the latter coming off a first-team All-Pro nod — have been replaced by Super Bowl winner Coby Bryant and former Bills safety Cam Lewis...

“The Bears probably still need to add a starting cornerback and a safety comfortable playing in the box between now and the start of the 2026 season,” he wrote.

There’s still a lo of time left in free agency and the offseason in general, so Chicago should be more than fine in finding its next guy.
