The 2026 season for the San Francisco 49ers is off to a great start. They're currently 4-0 entering Week 5 and will face the Seattle Seahawks for a chance to firmly cement their status as the class of the NFC.
While things are going well for the 49ers so far this season, there is one major underlying issue that could derail things. Once again, the 49ers have an injury problem. It's a lengthy injury list for the 49ers, enough that it might derail their season.
But it's also likely to have a big impact on their trade deadline plans. ESPN's Nick Wagoner revealed just how the 49ers' injury problems are going to impact the trade deadline.
49ers trade deadline plans revealed amid injury issues
"The 49ers will get some key players back from injury before or around the Nov. 10 trade deadline, but that's unlikely to stop them from being aggressive in their pursuit of adding help," Wagoner writes. "That's especially true on the defensive line and, to a lesser degree, wide receiver."
San Francisco should be getting some players back from injury around the trade deadline, but as Wagoner notes, the return of players from injury likely won't impact the 49ers' plans at the deadline.
Based on Wagoner's prediction, the big focus will be on the defensive side of the ball and adding more defensive line help.
Osa Odighizuwa has been fine, and the 49ers should get Mykel Williams and Nick Bosa back at some point this season. But getting some extra help, especially at the edge rusher spot, would make a lot of sense.

Khalil Mack is a name worth keeping in mind, as the 0-4 Los Angeles Chargers might be headed towards a trade deadline fire sale. Nolan Smith Jr. of the Philadelphia Eagles could be a target for the same reasons.
Even though Wagoner named wide receiver as a position the 49ers might end up pursuing, it's not nearly as big of a need for this team. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season, but the rest of the WR room should be back around the deadline.
Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, Christian Kirk, Demarcus Robinson, and De'Zhuan Stribling could be the WR room by the end of November. That's more than good enough to function at a high level. WR help might not be a big need due to those players.
At the end of the day, the 49ers are going to be looking to make additions by the trade deadline. This is a contending team in 2026, and Brock Purdy looks to be an early MVP candidate, if not the frontrunner.
This might finally be the 49ers' year, so adding help at the trade deadline, even with a lot of players possibly coming back from injury to fill some of their needs, would make a lot of sense.
