Dax Shepard and Eric Dane’s friendship had “quite the hilarious beginning.”
The “Armchair Expert” host told his podcast listeners Monday about the time he and Dane almost fought at an AA meeting.
“When we first were around each other, it wasn’t that good,” Shepard, 50, explained while discussing Alcoholics Anonymous with guest Brad Pitt.
“He threatened a dude in the meeting, and I said, ‘Let’s go motherf–ker,'” the former “Punk’d” prankster recalled.
He remembered Dane, 52, telling another attendee, “If you hit that timer again, I’m gonna f–king throw you in that f–king candle.”
At the time, Shepard declared, “That’s it, motherf–ker. Let’s go. Let’s go outside.”

The actors, who left the meeting to argue in the driveway, are “friends now.”
Shepard gushed, “I now f–king love [him]. I have such a sweetness for him.”
He and Dane previously shared the story on a June 2024 episode of the podcast, with the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum bringing up their “contentious” start at the “civil” meeting.
The “Euphoria” star said, “Somebody I brought … who probably shouldn’t have been at the meeting … did not stop, was droning on. Dax’s friend … kept resetting this timer every time the guy would go over. The timer went off, like, seven times.”
After Dane threatened to set the guy “ablaze,” he and Shepard went outside to “fight in the driveway” — but their argument was stopped by their shared sponsor.
Dane joked that he didn’t want to “scrap” with Shepard because the comedian is “a unit” who is always “looking for a fight.”
Shepard went on to describe how he “fell in love” with Dane after realizing they carry “the exact same bag of bulls–t,” as well as a shared love of cars.
Th duo’s candid podcast conversation took place a decade after they met.
The following year, Dane went public with his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis.
He spoke about his “sobering” condition for the first time in a “Good Morning America” interview with Diane Sawyer last week.
The “Charmed” alum revealed that his “right side has completely stopped working” and his left likely will only function for “a few more months.”
However, he is “fighting as much as [he] can” and doesn’t “think this is the end of [his] story.”
