Mayor Eric Adams will attend the inauguration of Donald Trump after the president-elect specifically asked for the Big Apple’s leader to come to Washington DC.
Hizzoner will also attend a private party with the newly sworn-in President Trump.
“In the early hours of Monday morning, the Trump administration reached out inviting Mayor Adams to attend the inauguration at the incoming administration’s request,” Deputy Mayor of Communication Fabien Levy said.“”Mayor Adams accepted on behalf of New York City.”
“As the mayor has repeatedly said, America has chosen a new national leader and we must work together to build a safer, stronger, and more affordable in New York City,” he added.
Adams has been coy for weeks as to whether or not he would attend the inauguration as some the mayor’s team have been pushing for Trump for a pardon to avoid his historic criminal trial in April.
The invite comes just days after Adams traveled to Florida for a sit down with Trump, where Adams claimed his legal case was not discussed.
Adams cleared his schedule to attend the swearing in gala — bailing on two Martin Luther King Day events in Brooklyn and Harlem.
