Manchester City have been in the headlines at the start of the 2026/27 season, but not exactly for their performances on the pitch.
Much of the discussion around the Premier League giants has been around the 114 charges brought down by the English top flight, as the conversation around their potential punishment rolls along.
It has left their strong on-field start to the campaign to fly under the radar, as new manager Enzo Maresca took over for Pep Guardiola and has hit the ground running, leading the club to the top of the standings as things currently stand.
In fact, his start has been so impressive, he has accomplished a feat not even Guardiola could accomplish when he began his own successful spell at the club.

Enzo Maresca sets Premier League record with Man City
Win for Man City over Ipswich Town on Saturday, October 17 saw Enzo Maresca win his seventh game in a row to begin his managerial tenure at the club.
The 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town broke the previous Premier League record held by three individuals. First, it was accomplished by Carlo Ancelotti who won six games to start his tenure at Chelsea in 2009/10, en route to winning the Premier League title that year.
Pep Guardiola, the very man Enzo Maresca replaced, was the next to accomplish the feat, starting his long and illustrious tenure at Man City.
The last manager to win six straight to start a managerial tenure before Maresca was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who enjoyed a winning run in December 2018 after being appointed Man United boss.

How many games in a row did Pep Guardiola win to start?
Pep Guardiola began his managerial tenure with Man City at the start of the 2016/17 season, first joining the club that summer.
His Premier League debut came on August 13 against Sunderland at home, which Man City won 2-1 on an 87th-minute own-goal by Paddy McNair.
That would be the first of six league wins to begin the campaign, before they went to London and fell 2-0 to Tottenham on October 2, as an own-goal by Aleksandar Kolarov early in the match was followed up by a strike by Dele Alli to condemn City before halftime.
