Enzo Maresca hails new Chelsea signing's performance against Lincoln City as 'very good'

Enzo Maresca has hailed Facundo Buonanotte’s performance for Chelsea against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup as ‘very good’.

Chelsea advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 victory against the League One high flyers, but in reality, it was a night to forget for the Blues.

An awful first-half performance saw the Blues head into the break a goal down and booed off by the travelling fans, but two goals in the first five minutes of the second half from Tyrique George and Buonanotte turned the game on its head.

On the back of a disappointing performance against Man United on Saturday, Maresca named a surprisingly strong side in the Carabao Cup.

Enzo Fernandez captained the side, whilst Alejandro Garnacho was handed his first Chelsea start, and Bunonanotte played in the number ten.

And it was the Argentine star who impressed his manager the most as he scored the winner to help Chelsea scrape past the lower league opposition.

Enzo Maresca raves about Facundo Buonanotte’s performance

For Buonanotte, it was just his second start of the season after joining on a season loan from Brighton in the summer.

The Argentine, like his teammates, struggled in the first half, but Buonanotte scored his first Chelsea goal after the break.

It was a night to forget in general for Chelsea, but Maresca stated after the game that he was impressed with Buonanotte.

“Yeah, Buonanotte was very good. I think first-half, we all struggled a little bit, second-half I think we were much, much better,” he told his post-match press conference.

Given that Buonanotte managed to impress his manager against Lincoln City, one should not be surprised if he is given the nod in Chelsea’s next game against Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend.
