It was a difficult night for Manchester City, as they welcomed defending Champions League winners PSG to the Etihad for their second league phase match of the 2026/27 season.
After winning their first Champions League match of the season, a 2-0 victory on the road at Porto in early September, they were hoping to be one of a select few clubs to secure victory in each of their first two European fixtures.
Instead, it all fell apart early as PSG romped to victory by a 4-2 score, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime and galloping to victory from there. City put up a stiff battle in the second half and scraped together a pair of consolation goals, but that was far from enough to challenge for the points.
Despite the clear delineation between the two clubs, Enzo Maresca still believed that the winners were a bit fortunate to come away with such a smashing victory.

PSG obliterate Man City in Champions League match
Paris Saint-Germain put four goals past Gianluigi Donnarumma and Man City in their Champions League match, a true masterclass by the two-time defending European champions.
Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele both finished the match with a goal and an assist each, while Manuel Akliouche and Vitinha both scored for the hosts as well.
Man City managed to bring themselves back into the game somewhat as Erling Haaland bagged a brace, but the Premier League side was wasteful as they ripped off 27 shots in their comeback attempt but put just nine of them on target. They out-touched PSG in the penalty area by 52-17, but were far less efficient in their chance creation.
Enzo Maresca claims PSG boss told him they were 'lucky'
Man City manager Enzo Maresca claimed after the match that PSG head coach Luis Enrique told him that the Parisian side was "lucky" to score as many goals as they did.
"We struggled in the first half because we conceded two goals, and when you are inside the pitch, you know that it's already difficult against them, and then you are thinking 'oh my god we are 2-0 down now,' so it becomes even more difficult," Maresca said in his post-match press conference. "But the second half I think we created enough chances, and we deserve something more, to be honest.
"But Luis [Enrique] also at the end told me at the end that they had been quite lucky during the 95 minutes, but again we lost and we can learn from that and move on."
To credit that idea, PSG racked up their four goals on just 1.83 expected goals. But they were still extremely deserving of their haul in front of goal. Desire Doue's assist for Ousmane Dembele was particularly impressive, while Vitinha was brilliant in midfield.
