During his debut season at Stamford Bridge, Enzo Fernandez has developed himself into one of the most indispensable players in Enzo Maresca’s team.
Not only has the 24-year-old become one of the first names on the Chelsea teamsheet, but he has also often worn the captain’s armband in the absence of Reece James.
The Argentine international also has developed a knack for popping up with important goal contributions and has racked up nine goals and 14 assists in 47 Chelsea appearances across all competitions in the 2024/25 season.
Fernandez has now set his sights on delivering more goals and assists next season, and he has been challenged to do so by his manager Enzo Maresca.
Fernandez said via Chelsea’s official website: “My goal against LAFC was my eighth of the season. That is a good number; it’s good in one season, and I am thankful to God for this. But for me, this is still just the beginning. I’m always going to want more, I always want to do better.
“And if I can do that, I will be helping the team. This is always on my mind. It’s why I work hard and try to improve, and with Enzo [Maresca], I am playing further forward, which has helped with my statistics. Next season, though, I want to score more goals and give more assists.”

Earlier this year, Maresca demanded that Fernandez develop into a midfielder who scores and assists more.
Maresca said via Chelsea’s official website: “With Enzo [Fernandez], we are trying with him since day one to get more goals and assists. In terms of numbers, he’s improved a lot, but I think he can do better. The way we play, he is a player that can score 10 to 15 goals a season.”
