The developers at Keen Games rolled out the next big update for Enshrouded (v0.9.0.0) called the Wake of Water on November 10, 2025. This update has introduced a new biome called the Veilwater Basin and the long-awaited dynamic water system. Along with these, major improvements have been made across base building, gameplay, and visuals.

With these updates, Enshrouded has evolved into a true open world. It's not only the visuals that got an update in the Wake of Water; everything from the game’s QOL to its co-op performance has been significantly improved to give players a better and smoother experience.

Veilwater Basin is a massive and visually impressive new region in the Enshrouded map, and is full of river canyons, waterfalls, and dense forests full of mystery. With this, the water becomes part of the world’s reactive systems.

In this region, players will find themselves in the new biome in search of lost and forgotten secrets. The new dynamic water system will cause floods and react to different terrains in different ways. Players will get new building opportunities as well as access to new materials, flora, and fauna to craft with. Expect to encounter new enemy types and new resources tied to the water biome.

The introduction of the new water physics in Enshrouded is not only a visual update, but a technical achievement in itself. Fans of the game have wanted this system from day one, and now we have it. The water behaves naturally with the terrain, filling in empty spaces in its path. This means players can now build near rivers and redirect their flow to gain a survival advantage. With this new update, players can now build complex farming systems using these water mechanics in Enshrouded.

The developers at Keen Studios have also hinted at much larger mechanics surrounding the new water physics that can alter the terrain itself.

Features like enemy pathfinding, lighting, and AI behavior have been overhauled to give you a much more optimized combat and exploration experience in Enshrouded.

The update has also fixed multiple bugs across the board, which included terrain clipping, data sync issues, and the most common issue with the crafting UI.

Fishing and water gameplay in Enshrouded

With this new update, you can now go fishing in Enshrouded. You can now fish as an additional activity and collect food for your survival. You can fish at any open water spots in the game and also catch high-quality fish from specific locations in the world (look out for rippling on water surfaces).

A new NPC has been added to the game who will help you get better fishing equipment and bait. This NPC is located in the Veilwater Basin region.

The ability to swim and dive is now inherent to all Flameborn and doesn't require any unlocking. Combat is still not available underwater, making avoiding danger the only option.

Updated level progression in Enshrouded

The level of progression has been taken up a notch; the Flameborn’s max level has been raised to 45. Creatures and enemies will now drop higher-level gear. Once unlocked, lore weapons can now be crafted in every tier.

New weapon types have also been introduced to the world. Rogues have access to new arrows, mages have received new spells, and warriors are getting the Greatsword as their new weapon.

Visual and atmospheric update in Enshrouded

The Veilwater Basin’s new biome is further enhanced by the new lighting system, meaning enhanced global illumination and better shadows from all sources. The game now has more vibrant skies and surface reflections, making the environment more appealing than it was previously. The game now has much denser forests and woodlands, making it a very immersive experience, especially at nighttime.

The weather system has also received a major update; it now shows reflective moisture in the air after rainfall and near rivers, giving it a light foggy aesthetic. This enhances the atmosphere of Enshrouded even further, making it more aesthetically pleasing and highly immersive while walking across these terrains.
