Emily Hampshire's sweet bond with Catherine O'Hara began years before the cameras started rolling on Schitt's Creek.

In fact, the duo—who starred in the Emmy-winning comedy from 2015 to 2020—met while filming the crime drama The Life Before This together in 1999—and the rest is history

As Hampshire exclusively told E! News' Will Marfuggi March 24 at the Los Angeles premiere of her new film Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, "She was as nice to me then as she was after seven years of working together."

After their first professional encounter, the Montreal native reached out to O'Hara for some help with her move to the United States.

"I'd emailed her to ask her to help me get my green card," the 44-year-old recounted, "because you have to get famous people to say, 'You're amazing.' Right away, she was like, 'Of course, anything.' Just so lovely."

Of course, the act of kindness is part of O’Hara’s legacy.

"That's her," Hampshire shared. "That who she is to everybody. She is a great person."

It's no shocker, then, that other Schitt's Creek costars had similar memories of O'Hara, who died in January at age 71 from pulmonary embolism after a brief battle with rectal cancer.

"What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years," the show's co-creator Dan Levy shared in an Instagram post Jan. 30. "I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her."

Levy also reflected on her longstanding connection to his dad Eugene Levy both on and off-screen.

"Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family," he continued. "It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it."

And while the same goes for Hampshire, she knows the show must go on. Her latest venture finds her as an untrustworthy cop alongside Vince Vaughn doing double duty as two different characters in the action comedy.

"Watching Vince do anything was mind-blowing," Hampshire told E!. "The way he improvises, the way he just is so present and funny—to get it times two is great."

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice premieres March 27 on Hulu.
